HICKORY MIDDLE SCHOOL MISSION
The mission of Hickory Middle School is to develop well-educated, productive citizens through high academic standards and student-centered learning opportunities which emphasize the importance of community, while respecting individual uniqueness in a safe, caring environment.
Our vision is to create stimulating learning experiences for children that excite and motivate them to develop into driven knowledge-seekers for life.
Our entire educational family vows to commit itself to the differentiated needs of all children so that collaboration compels success aimed at the advancement of every child’s academic, social, and emotional well-being.
Welcome to the Hickory Middle School Counseling Department website. It is our goal to provide a comprehensive resource to help students develop and acquire skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary to plan for their future. In our ever changing world, it is more critical than ever to be well informed of the latest requirements, resources, and opportunities for all of our students. The school counselor has specific training in addressing the academic, career, and personal/social development needs of students and is available to help students, parents, and teachers develop positive learning experiences.
Please take the time to review this site carefully, and often. This site is designed to be a resource, and a compliment to the services that are provided by our professional school counselors. Our counselor’s are committed to the success of all students.
The counselors’ office is located in the main office of the school. Appointments can be scheduled by completing a student request form, a teacher referral, calling 757.421.0468, or emailing your grade level school counselor.

Our mission as professional school counselors is to provide a comprehensive, standard-based counseling program designed to promote the formation of productive and responsible citizens by assisting all students to develop academic, career, and personal/social competencies. Effective school counseling programs are a collaborative effort between the professional school counselor, parents, teachers, administrators, and the greater community to create an environment that promotes student achievement, as well as develop initiatives to close the achievement gap. A comprehensive school counseling program connects school counseling with current educational reform initiatives that emphasize student achievement and success. Professional school counselors value and respond to the diversity and individual differences in our societies and communities. Comprehensive school counseling programs ensure equitable access for all students to participant fully in the educational process and to be productive members in a global economy and diverse society.

10/14 "7 UP" ACADEMIC SKILLS SMALL GROUP
Selected seventh grade students will participate in a group after school on Tuesday and Wednesday to improve organization skills, study skills, and test taking skills.
11/13 ACADEMY INFORMATION NIGHT
The Chesapeake Public Schools Academy Information Night will take place at Grassfield High School on Thursday, November 13th at 7:00 p.m. Academy coordinators will present information on their respective programs one at a time so that interested parents and students can learn about all three programs in one evening.
